This quote is significant because right know in the Muslim community many young girls choose not to wear the hijab. In the Muslim religion it states that a girl must wear the hijab as soon as she starts her first menstrual cycle. Most young girls do and the ones who don't usually get maid fun of and harassed and in our religion it says a day of not wearing the hijab is walking around naked for a day. So Lelia's mom is saying to Yasmeen that it is important for her to wear her hijab and shows her loyalty to her religion and her how much her faith means to.. it also shows her purity and her morals and values!
